Dr. Stephen Kinslow, TAP’s honoree for the 2010 Rostow Lifetime Achievement Award, was the focus of an editorial in the Austin-American Statesman last Friday. After Kinslow announced plans to retire at the end of his contract as CEO and President of Austin Community College next June, the paper took a moment to note Kinslow’s critical role in making education more accessible to the Austin community:
“Perhaps Kinslow’s greatest talent has been strengthening ACC’s role in the community by emphasizing higher education and developing a skilled work force. He reached out to white, African American and Latino students who needed affordable and flexible options to higher education. During his presidency, enrollment has grown 30 percent, to 37,850 students.”
Dr. Kinslow has been a faithful friend and supporter of TAP for many years, and he has inspired our own mission to improve education by expanding and promoting access to college for our community’s most vulnerable members. We are pleased to see him receiving much-deserved recognition, and we look forward to celebrating his life and work at the Rostow Awards Dinner this October.
